BASS SWITCH
The BASS Switch is a touch switch designed for use by individuals with upper extremity and severe physical disabilities. This switch can be used to activate switch-adapted toys and appliances and requires three to five ounces of pressure for activation. This switch has a large surface, a low profile, and a non-skid bottom. DIMENSIONS: 6 x 3.75 x 1 inches. COLOR: The switch comes with red, yellow, green, blue, and black plate overlays.

BATTERY ADAPTER (MODEL 720)
The Battery Adapter, model 720, is a switch adapter interface for single switch activation of any battery operated toy, tape recorder, or other device. Continuous pressure on the switch keeps the device running until the switch is released. The adapter can be used with the Switch Latch/Timer (see separate entry) to set action for a specified time period or to use switch hits for on and off. The disk end is inserted into the battery compartment; the other end plugs into any switch with a standard 1/8-inch mini plug.

Big:Calc is a voice output, large print calculator designed for use by persons with low vision or cognitive or physical disabilities. It features large number keys, high-quality speech and built-in scanning. Triggered by either a mouse click or a switch, the unit can be used by itself or can help to assist the user with a database or spreadsheet program. It is also designed to allow the user to change the number and function key sizes and background settings in order to accommodate various users. BLOCKS IN MOTION
Blocks In Motion is a perceptual training program designed to offer an opportunity to create animated pictures from shapes and colors for persons with cognitive disabilities. This computer program can help to build a variety of skills: (1) creative thinking; (2) manipulation; (3) cause and effect; (4) problem solving; (5) spatial relations; and (6) analytical thinking. It is constructed with manipulative building blocks (circles, squares, triangles and many others) displayed at the top of the screen as well as sounds and backgrounds. In order for the user to create a picture, they must select a shape by clicking on to it using the mouse; then, the user must pick the spot on the screen for that shape by clicking on the mouse once again; after that happens, the shape automatically drops from its place, at the top of the screen, to help construct the desired picture. The program also offers different types of animation qualities: objects can either fall to the bottom of the screen (as described above); move left to right like objects in a maze; up and down; randomly bounce around the screen; or follow the path that the user defines. The program comes with the standard Basic Blocks and Wooden Blocks kit and can be purchased with or without learning materials. Other recommended access is available through TouchWindow and Ke:nx (see separate entries). COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh. Circletime Tales is a language tutorial program designed to promote social interaction through computer animated stories and songs for children with physical or cognitive disabilities. It is a collection of three "hand-play" nursery rhymes using rhyming and repetition to teach basic concepts such as up and down, colors and counting. The program is constructed to work with Macintosh's Switch Interface or TouchWindow (see separate entry), a single switch, or a standard mouse; these controls allow the user to turn the story's pages. Circletime Tales Deluxe is a language tutorial program on CD-ROM with accompanying learning materials designed to promote social interaction during group activities through three nursery rhymes for pre-school children. This animated computer program features pictures and text at the bottom of the screen. The text can be optionally highlighted word-by-word or phrase-by-phrase. The nursery rhymes include Eensy Weensy Spider, Mary Wore Her Red Dress and Five Little Ducks. English- and Spanish-speaking versions are available. This program is ideal for individuals with a physical disability because it is touch screen accessible. CO:WRITER 4000
Co:Writer 4000 is a word prediction program designed for use by children and teens with learning or upper extremity disabilities. This voice output program utilizes FlexSpell and the Total Vocabulary System (TVS) to provide users with the tools required for writing. FlexSpell enables students to work at their developmental spelling level by permitting them to begin words phonetically or by cueing initial letter combinations; both approaches provide lists from which the correct word can be selected. Predicted words are read aloud to aid in word recognition. The program automatically capitalizes the firs word of a sentence and spaces after words. The X:PND feature provides abbreviation expansion, enabling entire phrases or sentences to be written using a single keystroke. The Total Vocabulary System a selection of main dictionaries to provide the right option for user needs, as well as personal dictionaries, topic-specific dictionaries, and a topic dictionary toolkit. Background and text colors can be customized to meet user needs. COMPATIBILITY: For use on PowerMac or IBM and compatible computers. This CD-ROM combines five icon libraries with more than 7,000 icons that can be altered to suit the user. DJ Switch Kit, model B12, is a rocker and touch switch kit designed to provide access to computers, toys and other communication devices for persons with physical disabilities. This organizational tool helps keep the user focused on the writing process by aiding in organizing, sequencing, and integrating information to create a high-quality first draft. This software takes the user through three steps: Outlining/mapping, note taking, and drafting. Outlining and mapping helps build a framework for writing that includes main and supporting ideas. Note taking helps clarify and develop thoughts for writing. Drafting takes the outline and notes and integrates them to aid the user in combining information and building a logically-sequenced draft. Ellipse Switches are a collection of low-profile touch switches designed for use by individuals with upper extremity disabilities. Shaped to fit the hand, activation is accomplished when the switch is touched anywhere on the surface. The Ellipse 3 requires one to three ounces of pressure and is ideal for mounting on a wheelchair tray next to the joystick control. The Ellipse 6 is designed for users that need a large target but have a light touch. This switch requires five to eight ounces of pressure for activation. The Invisible Connection is an infrared remote control switch designed to allow wireless connection between switches and a variety of devices such as a computer, environmental control unit, or battery operated radio. K.C. Clyde In Fly Ball Interactive CD-ROM is a story program designed to promote literacy, reading and language involvement for children with cognitive disabilities. The program features animated imaginative characters (K.C. is a boy; Clyde is a dog, and UKandu is the wordbird), catchy music and fun word recognition activities. It is designed with up to 21 story paths (more than 120 pages of story is possible), four levels of word interaction, and pop quizzes. The characters are engineered to talk directly to the users by asking questions, enabling the user to become the story's author by having to make choices that determine the story's direction. PAINT BOX SNAP AND PAINT BOX CLEAR KEYS
Paint Box Snap is a six-key alternative keyboard for Apple IIGS computers that is designed to work with the Adaptive Firmware Card (AFC, see separate entry). Each of the six large keys is a different color. The keyboard may be used with any program that requires use of one to six keys. PREDICT IT
Predict It is a word processor program with predictive word capabilities designed to help students with physical disabilities to increase speed by cutting down on keystrokes. The program also provides a speech feedback option to assist people with visual and cognitive disabilities to hear word choices and selection. When the user types in the first letter of a word, a list of several words beginning with that letter appears at the bottom of the screen. If the desired word is in the list, the user types in the number corresponding to the correct word or positions the cursor at the correct word and presses the space bar. Access to punctuation and grammatically correct endings (-ing, -ed, -ly, etc.) is also provided. The program draws from a 1500-word vocabulary to make predictions, and collects new words during use and offers these words as future word choices. The program can be tailored to the individual by selecting the number of word choices presented, choosing grammar on/off, and using the optional speech capabilities. Predict It has standard word processor functions such as cut, copy, paste, move, delete, and save. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple IIe (128K), Apple IIc/c+, and Apple IIGS computers. The user opens a file or browses the Internet and clicks “speak.” The program reads the content aloud in human-sounding voices. Read:Outloud can read text in the following formats: PDF, DAISY 3, Microsoft “Save As Daisy,” Bookshare files, Rich Text Format (RTF), .txt, HTML, XML, and Pearson’s HTMLbook format. Words are highlighted onscreen as they are read. The program includes an accessible web browser and a variety of templates designed to help students use comprehension strategies when reading. The eHighlighters tool helps capture critical facts and information with green, red and yellow hightlighters. SENSOR SWITCH (MODEL 722)
The Sensor Switch, model 722, is a motion detection switch designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injuries, severe physical disabilities,or upper extremity disabilities. Activated by controlled small muscle movement, the switch consists of a control box with two sensor pads connected to it. The sensors can be placed on the forehead, under fingers, on work surfaces, on a headrest, or wherever the user can best control them. The sensitivity of the switches can be adjusted to increase or decrease the amount of muscle movement needed to activate the switch, and each switch sensor has its own controls. Auditory (tone) and visual (red light) feedback are provided. An adjustable switch delay eliminates unwanted activations. Each switch operates in three modes: Time, Momentary, and Latch. The Latch mode is preferred when operating a device that needs to remain on until another switch activation is turns it off. SWITCH LATCH / TIMER (MODEL 771)
The Switch Latch/Timer is a switch adapter designed to turn a single switch into an on/off switch or one that turns on a toy or other device for a set period of time. The Switch Latch/Timer works with battery-operated devices such as toys or the Dial Scan (see separate entry). Two switches can be used to operate two differenct devices. In Latch mode, pressing the switch once starts action; pressing it a second time stops the action. In Time mode, action is turned on for a specified amount of time; action stops automatically at the end of the time period. Time length can be set from 2 seconds to 2 minutes. This program reads each word as it is typed for consistent auditory feedback, and it can also reads any electronic text, enabling students tp research and present reports. Included imported graphics can also be used to prompt and support writing with the "get picture button," and on-screen tools enable the user to work without using menus. On-screen highlighting as the text is read enables the student to connect the spoken words with the written words. BIGGY
Biggy is a cursor control interface designed to enlarge cursors on the computer screen for people with visual or cognitive disabilities. This program offers a variety of large cursor alternatives, some with animation, that are at least twice the size of the standard cursor. The program also offers replacements for the I-beam cursor and the wait cursor (the watch on Macintosh computers and the hourglass in Windows). Both versions also have an option that automatically "snaps" the cursor to the "OK" or default button in dialogue boxes, as well as the option of having the pointer wrap around the screen rather than stopping at the edge. The Windows versions also include KeyMouse which enables all mouse movement and button functions to be controlled using the numeric keypad on a standard keyboard or using Intellikeys (see separate entry), and an option which enables the window sizing arrows to be enlarged. The Windows 95/98 version also enables the user to thicken all borders to make grabbing the edge of a window easier. The Macintosh version can double the size of all other cursors. This utility program works within any software program. This keyboard features a choice of large brightly colored keys with enlarged black labels or white keys with enlarged black labels. Step 1 for Adolescents and Adults provides game-style multimedia instruction designed to appeal to adolescents and adults who are struggling to read faster, spell better, and improve their comprehension. Game play is automatically adjusted to the skill level and progress of the student. Other factors that can be adjusted include the amount of visual cueing and auditory feedback, the rate at which sounds are presented, the length of sound units, and the amount of background noise competing for the student's attention. First Keys is a language tutorial program and computer keyboarding instruction program designed for children with learning or cognitive disabilities. It links the development of keyboard awareness to early literacy skills. It is suitable for young children or older pupils with learning difficulties. Users develop keyboard skills through picture matching, letter recognition, word building, and spelling exercises. The location of keys is taught by matching letters with pictures and speech. The program includes word lists, color pictures and symbols, and speech. New word lists can also be defined by the teacher. This program uses pictures, animation, speech, and sound to reinforce successful completion of tasks. Activity screens can be printed to follow-up work away from the computer. When an activity is completed, a simple record sheet can be displayed or printed to use as a reward, or to help monitor progress. The program has seven types of activities: In Picture Match, a picture prompt is used to show the location of a letter key. Matching this to a target picture reveals the letter on the keyboard. The Intel Reader is a voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision or who have reading-based learning disabilities. This hand-held mobile device captures printed text, converts it to digital text, and reads it aloud. Reading is accomplished by pointing the Intel Reader's built-in camera at the printed material, snapping a picture, and listening to the spoken read-out. The user can change voices, select voice gender, and change pitch and playback speed. If desired, the unit can read the built-in menus to assist the user with managing content. Overlay Maker is a keytop overlay creator designed for use with IntelliKeys (see separate entry). The PowerLink 4 Control Unit is a control switch interface unit designed for use by individuals with upper extremity or neurological disabilities or cerebral palsy. This unit enables switch users to control up to two electrical appliances with single switches. Six modes of control allow the user to define exactly how, and for how long, appliances will be turned on. Speaking Dynamically and Speaking Dynamically Pro are symbolic communicator, direct selection communicator, and scanning symbol communicator programs designed for making customized, multi-level, picture or word communication boards with speech output. These programs may be used as tools for teaching cause and effect, switches, scanning, symbol training, phrase and sentence structure, spelling, word prediction, or reading activities. The user designs the activities and decides what actions will occur when a picture is selected. Selecting a picture can activate speech, change screens, or both activate speech and change screens. TRACKBALL PLUS
The Trackball Plus is a track ball designed to provide computer cursor control for individuals with fine motor and other upper extremity disabilities. This device features separate buttons for click, double click, horizontal/vertical only, drag, and speed. Five cursor speed settings are accessed simply by touching the speed button. The cursor remains in position when the ball is released and a red light indicates when the drag button is active. This device also has a removable fingerplate that isolates each button and the ball for better control. ZOOMCAPS
ZoomCaps are large print keytop overlays designed to make computer keyboards accesible to individuals with low vision. The alphanumeric characters are printed in large 40-point type and the labels affix to the top of the keys. Letters are presented in upper case only. There are ninety-one labels per set including labels for all alphanumeric keys and for many special keys (Esc, F1, Shift, Ctrl, etc). COMPATIBILITY: Sets are available for use on IBM and compatible keyboards and for Apple Macintosh and Apple IIe/IIc keyboards.
