  1. BOARDMAKER SYMBOL ADDENDUM LIBRARIES (1998, 2000, 2002, & 2004 EDITIONS)

    Boardmaker Addendum Libraries are a symbolic language picture creation programs designed for use with Boardmaker (see separate entry). These libraries were created in response to Boardmaker users' requests The 1998 Edition ncludes symbols for each of the 50 states, history symbols, animals, foods, entertainment, people, descriptive words, and more. The 2000 Library contains more than 1,300 symbols, including public signs, country symbols, and country flags. The 2002 Library has more than 1,200 symbols, including bathroom skills, behavioral problems, and science categories. The 2004 Library contains more than 1,000 symbols including behavior, animals, food, health, school, and grooming categories. A picture index is included with each. COMPATIBILITY: Versions are available for use on Macintosh computers and IBM and compatible computers equipped with Windows. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: CD-ROM drive.

  2. CALCU-SCAN (MODEL M126) Picture of CALCU-SCAN (MODEL M126)

    CalcuScan, model M126, is a scanning calculator program designed for use by students with sverere physical or neurological disabilities, cerebral palsy, or low vision. This calculator program can be used as a classroom math aid for teachers and students. Multiple key layout options and access modes are provided to suit specific teacher and student needs. The user can edit and reassign key names and functions; display calculator key layouts at any size, up to full-screen, with high-contract keys and digits; enter answers to problems with or without using the calculator functions; specify and save layout, access, sound, miscellaneous, and work options (for example, scan interval, say value, auditory scan, scroll/normal register); and display or print records of student progress. Scanning modes include auto, inverse, and one- or two-switch scans, and dwell access for head-pointing devices. In the Problem Editor, teachers can view, create, and edit math problems and save lists of problems. Numeric problems and word problems are entered just as they will be displayed to the student. The program can display math problems to be solved by the student using the calculator or by entering the answer directly. OPTIONS: Keystrokes Onscreen Keyboard, model F1OI102.   3. CLIP WITH CHAIN

    The Clip with Chain is a carrying aid for a communicator designed to be used by persons who communicate nonvocally or have a speech impairment. The clip features a belt clip, a nine-inch chain and a ring that attaches to the grommet hole of a communication aid. It allows the user to carry a small pocket communication aid for easy retrieval and helps to ensure that the aid is not lost.

  4. COMMUNICATION BINDER

    The Communication Binder is a Communication book designed for use with a symbolic language system for nonspeech or limited speech persons. This three-ring binder contains sheets to which communication symbols may be attached. The pages are printed with blank grids of one or two inch squares, and have non-glare vinyl sleeves that resist the transfer of toner copying ink from photocopied symbols. The front cover of the binder has a pocket for an identification card. Each binder comes with five vinyl sheet protectors with two grids each, and one extra grid sheet. Additional grids and protectors are available. DIMENSIONS (WxH): 8.88 x 11.38 inches.

  5. COMMUNICATION FOLDER & TRI-FOLDER

    The Communication Folder and Tri-folder are communication books designed for use as part of a symbolic language system. The vinyl covered folder contains sheets printed with grids that are covered by transparent, non-glare vinyl pockets. Communication symbols may be affixed to the pockets to provide a quick and easy-to-read communication display. The vinyl pockets resist the transfer of toner copying ink from photocopied communication symbols. Two spare grid sheets are provided with each folder; more are available. DIMENSIONS: The Communication Folder opens to 19.25 x 11 2/3 inches to display four 8.5 x 11 inch grids. The three-panel Tri-folder opens to 29.5 x 11 2/3 inches (folds to 9.5 x 11 2/3 inches) to display six 8.5 x 11 inch grids.

  6. C-SPEAK APHASIA Picture of C-SPEAK APHASIA

    C-Speak Aphasia is a language tutorial program designed for use by adults with aphasia. The program provides a complete set of boards for use with Boardmaker, Boardmaker Plus, or Boardmaker with Speaking Dynamically Pro version 5 or higher. Pictures are selected on screen and combined to create a message which can be written or spoken. Little or no reading comprehension or spelling ability is required. Some boards are designed to be customized for the individual. The program includes a training manual, 85 Speaking Dynamically Pro boards, a screening test with 15 Speaking Dynamically Pro boards, 28 stimulus cards, and a score sheet. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh computers.

  7. EVERBODY'S DOING IT!

    Everybody's Doing It! is a personal skills tutorial program, symbolic language pictures, and a visual symbol training program designed to teach people who communicate nonvocally or who have speech impairments about their health. This symbolic picture communication book provides 440 pages of full body action pictures to be customized by the user. This book targets 55 commonly used verbs in 527 action situations. Each action is depicted in at least three situations, giving the user multiple opportunities to generalize about his or her understanding and usage of each target verb. The pictures are adaptable to many different types of language activities including facilitating language in students with language delays, training and expanding communication board use, improving word retrieval skills, and retraining receptive and expressive language skills in people with traumatic brain injuries. The characters in the pictures are "bald" so the user can decide gender as well as hair style; the characters' mouths are left blank so the user can decide what expression is appropriate; and the character's and scenes of each picture may be colored as desired. A communication board is provided in the book to help some clients communicate how they want their character personalized. The board includes colors, descriptive words, feeling, and clothing items. An appendix with more than 200 one-inch verb symbols is also included.

  8. FACTS BOARD

    The FaCTS Board is a communication board designed to be a simple, inexpensive, low-tech device for facilitated communication. The board consists of card stock printed with the alphabet in QWERTY format and some blank spaces. The back side of the sheet has all blank spaces, which may be used for picture symbols or words. The card stock attaches with report clips to a plexiglass template with .5-inch holes for each letter on the keyboard. The holes provide tactile feedback and a more defined visual target. An instructional booklet explaining the basics of facilitated communication, suggestions for using the FaCTS Board, and a list of additional resources is included. The board comes with a vinyl carrying case for portability. DIMENSIONS: Board is 8.5 x 11 inches.

  9. FOOD BINGO, CLOTHING BINGO, & GROOMING BINGO

    Food Bingo, Clothing Bingo and Grooming Bingo are pre-reading tutorial programs designed to reinforce common picture symbols for persons with language disabilities. These are low-level games using the Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) and may be played by up to 20 players.

  10. FOOD KIT

    The Food Kit is a group of symbolic language pictures designed for teaching basic language skills using the Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) to nonspeech or limited speech students. The kit focuses on 53 common food and drink nouns, persons, and the verbs "like," "don't like," "eat," and "drink." Included are 44 or 88 stamps for each symbol, two decks of 54 playing cards with 2-inch versions of the picture symbol set, masters of duplicable worksheets, large stimulus cards to promote discussion of themes, suggestions for adapting materials, masters of symbols, "people" symbols to be customized to represent clients, blank food container shapes to allow clients to create symbols, and instructions for conducting suggested activities.

  11. GOTALK POCKET (MODEL GT-P06) Picture of GOTALK POCKET (MODEL GT-P06)

    GoTalk Pocket, model GT-P06, is a direct selection communicator designed for use by individuals with cognitive, communication, or speech disabilities. This hand- or pocket-sized communicator has six message keys with five levels, for a total of 30 possible messages. Overlays slide in place and are stored in a removable compartment on the back. Total recording time is 5 minutes. The casing is rugged and contoured. POWER: Uses 3 triple-A batteries (included). WEIGHT: 7 ounces.

  12. HOLIDAY KIT

    The Holiday Kit is a communication board designed for use with the Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) for use by nonspeech or limited speech persons. The holiday symbols are intended to motivate spontaneous conversation about holidays and other special occasions. The kit includes pre-made boards for Christmas, New Years Eve, Easter, birthdays, Halloween, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Thanksgiving, and Valentines Day. Duplicable symbol masters are also included for the above holidays, along with Labor Day, July 4, St. Patrick's Day, six Jewish holidays, Memorial Day, Presidents Day, April Fools Day, Veterans Day, and Martin Luther King Day. The symbol masters include over 250 symbols, 130 of which are not in Picture Communication Symbols Book 1 or 2 (see entry). Blank color-coded boards (six of each), a vinyl folder, an information sheet about each special day, and two reproduceable worksheet masters (one to be filled in before a special day and one to be filled in afterwards) are also included. DIMENSIONS: Pre-made and blank color-coded boards are provided in both one- and two-inch sizes.

  13. I CAN PLAY, TOO!

    I Can Play, Too! is a voice output game program and speech training program designed for use with various card and board games to allow a nonverbal individual to use a computer for his or her speech output while playing. Screens are included for the following games: Go Fish; Red Light, Green Light; Cootie; Checkers; Battleship; Simon Says; and other general board games. Features of the program include a child's human speech; touches of animation, including a tumbling musical die; a manual with practical information on how to adapt these games so that all students will have fun and be included; and multiple access choices including mouse, joystick, touchscreen, alternative keyboard, Unicorn Board, Intellikeys, Light Talker, Touch Talker, and switches. When using scanning with a single or two switches includes normal scan, step scan, inverse scan, group/item scan, or item scan in a linear or circular pattern. All scanning modes allow the user to vary scanning speed and the number of repetitions before the scan goes back to the beginning. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh Plus or greater computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: A HyperCard 2.0 or higher, 2 Megabytess of Random Access Memory (RAM), and a hard drive with 5 Megabytes of disk space available.

  14. INDIVIDUALIZED COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

    Individualized Communication Systems are communication boards designed for instructing non-vocal persons in the fundamentals of non-speech communication. Each plastic board features a set of clear vinyl pockets. Communication symbols of any type may be placed in the pockets, which are secured by a clear, non-glare plexiglass cover that snaps on top. Seven colors of card stock paper are included for mounting the communication symbols. The boards are primarily designed to aid teachers and therapists in training non-vocal persons to use picture symbols. They are not intended for use as a long-term communication system. DIMENSIONS: An 8.5 x 11 inches board with 1 inch pockets, and an 11.75 x 19 inches board with 2 inch pockets are available.

  15. INTRODUCTION TO KITCHEN APPLIANCES

    Introduction to Kitchen Appliances is are symbolic language pictures and an independent living skills tutorial and safety awareness tutorial program designed to provide symbolic language pictures, along with text, for teaching the use of appliances in school or home settings to people who communicate nonvocally or who have other disabilities. This daily living skills workbook includes units on the stove, oven, freezer, microwave, refrigerator, and a review section. Each chapter moves in sequence from general to specific facts. New information is gradually increased with continuous repetition. The review chapter compares and contrasts the appliances. Both function and safety tips are incorporated into the lessons. The worksheets are self- explanatory, and Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) are used throughout so that students do not require reading skills to respond to questions. After each appliance is introduced, there are cut and past, multiple choice, and fill in the blank activities.

  16. KEY RETURN

    The key return is designed to be used as a carrying aid for a communicator by persons who communicate nonvocally or have a speech impairment. The key return features a 24-inch retractable chain which attaches to a small communication aid, board or notebook for easier carrying. A clip belt is attached to the retractable chain for easy access and carrying.

  17. LANGUAGE BUILDER OCCUPATION PICTURE CARDS

    The Language Builder Occupation Picture Cards are symbolic language pictures designed for use by individuals with cognitive or communication disabilities. This set of 115 functional photo cards shows 61 up-to-date occupational images using both men and women. In addition to assisting with communication, the cards can be used to teach occupational labels, community helpers, gender labels, pronouns, and storytelling. DIMENSIONS: Each card is 3 x 5 inches.

  18. LIFE EXPERIENCES COMMUNICATION KIT

    The Life Experiences Communication Kit is a communication board designed to teach 11 separate lessons in daily life experiences to non-speech or limited speech students. The lesson plans cover such activities as "Make Juice," or "Wash Face," or "Go Restaurant." Each lesson comes with a Miniature Communication Board with the appropriate color-coded Mayer-Johnson Picture Communication Symbols (a total of six boards with some designed to be used for more than one lesson), a step-by-step Picture Direction Sheet for the student, and an instruction sheet for the teacher.   20. LONG WALLET

    The Long Wallet is a communication book for use as part of a symbolic language system for persons who communicate nonvocally or have a speech disability. The wallet features a symbol display which fits easily into a back pants pocket. It comes with a grommet so that it can be attached to a belt with a strap or clip. CAPACITY: The wallet will hold 576 one-inch pictures. DIMENSIONS: 4 x 8.5 inches.

  21. MEGA BOOK

    The Mega-Book is a communication book and symbolic language system designed for use by persons who communicate nonvocally or have a speech impairment. This full sized folder features 12 top loading cover sheets seamed into the book. The book contains a third half-panel which can be used for common vocabulary in a ready reference format.     The Nylon Strap is a carrying aid for a communicator designed for use as a by persons who communicate nonvocally or have a speech impairment. The adjustable strap snaps in two different lengths and features a key ring on the plastic snap hook. The strap is designed to go around a belt or wheeelchair armrest and clips onto a communication book that has a grommet hole.

  24. PCS COLOR STICKERS

    PCS Color Stickers are symbolic language stickers designed to be used on most communication devices. The stickers are peel and stick versions of the Mayer-Johnson Picture Communication Symbols (PCS). The stickers feature six background colors, organized according to topic.   25. PCS GALLERY

    PCS Gallery is a communication device accessory and symbolic language picture library for children and adults with learning disabilities. The software includes nearly 3,500 colorful Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) used on communication boards on and off the computer. Users can make on-screen displays, scan windows or create overlays for alternate keyboards. The PCS backgrounds are color-coded by category and include people, verbs, adjectives, fast foods, restaurant logos, games and more.   26. PCS STAMPS

    PCS Stamps are symbolic language stickers designed to be used on most communication devices. The stamps are versions of the Mayer-Johnson Picture Communication Symbols printed and designed for use as lick-and-stick stamps. Four stamp sets are available, containing 4 to 12 copies of each of 1,100 symbols. Book I offers a total of 5,400 stamps (700 symbols) and is available in Black on White Stamps ($29. 00) or Color-Coded Stamps ($34.00), color-coded by topic. Book II Black on White ($39.00) contains 9,100 stamps (over 1,100 symbols), as does Book II Color-Coded ($44.00). SIZE: 1 inch square.

  27. PCS WORDLESS EDITION

    The PCS Wordless Edition is a volume of symbolic language pictures designed for use by persons who communicate nonvocally or have a speech impairment. The 240-page spiral bound book features 1,600 symbols taken from the Picture Communication Symbols Books I and II (see separate entry). The words located over the symbols have been removed for using the symbols on various voice machine overlays or for translation into other languages. The pages of the spiral bound book are easy to duplicate. DIMENSIONS: Each symbol comes in a 2-inch, 1-inch, and .75-inch size.

  28. PICTURE COMMUNICATION SYMBOLS BOOK I, II, III & PICTURE COMMUNICATION SYMBOLS COMPLETE SET

    Picture Communication Symbols Book I, II, and III are black and white line drawings designed for use with non-vocal communication systems, such as communication boards. Each drawing is labeled with a word, and abstract symbols are represented by a word. The pages may be photo-copied and cut apart. Book I features over 700 different communication symbols, and comes with a starter guide illustrating the basics of making communication boards. Book II includes 1,100 additional symbols, and features such topic areas as fast food restaurants, religion, sexuality, computers, and conversational discourse phrases such as "please repeat."   30. PLAYING DYNAMICALLY

    Playing Dynamically is a symbolic language picture library designed for use with children with communication disabilities and autism. This program provides over 70 communication boards that combine language development and play, providing action, variety, and a choice of control. The program displays 13 commonly available toys on a toy shelf, with additional choices available in a toy store. When a toy or an activity is selected, corresponding communication boards on the computer screen enable the user to talk while playing. Board choices are arranged on two shelves, primary for young children and secondary for older individuals. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh computers.

  31. POCKET-SIZED & DOUBLE POCKET-SIZED COMMUNICATION BOOK

    The Pocket-Sized and Double Pocket-Sized Communication Books are vinyl covered notebooks designed for use with symbolic language systems by nonspeech or limited speech persons.   32. PRACTICE COMMUNICATION CARDS

    Practice Communication Cards are a visual symbol training system, a symbolic language system, and symbolic language pictures designed for use by nonspeech or limited speech students. The notecards feature a line drawing on the front and a target word on the back for use as flash cards; i.e., the instructor shows the student a card, and the student tries to make the target response. Each set consists of 135 cards that test 42 words commonly used on communication boards. Instructions and suggestions are included. DIMENSIONS: 5 x 7 inches.

  33. PRINT 'N PLAY

    Print 'N Play is a language tutorial program designed for use with children with cognitive and communication disabilities. This program includes more than 50 bingo and mystery game boards for language skills. The CD-ROM also features motivational games for themes, holidays, and special occasions. The games can be printed directly from the CD-ROM or they can be dragged to the user's hard drive to enable the games to be customized. COMPATIBILITY: This CD-ROM contains versions for use on Macintosh computers and IBM and compatible computers equipped with Windows95.

  34. SENTENCE KEY & PICTURE SENTENCE KEY

    Sentence Key and Picture Sentence Key are language tutorial programs and reading tutorial programs designed to teach language structure for children with autism and other disorders. The main objective of the programs is to teach a student how to make a phrase saying "who is doing what". As pictures are selected to make the phrase, the computer speaks in a clear digitized speech. When the sentence is completed, the entire sentence is spoken and an animated picture appears depicting the sentence. Both programs are HyperCard stacks; Picture Sentence Key uses symbolic pictures and text; Sentence Key works the same way except that it uses text instead of pictures. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh Plus or greater computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: A hard disk and any version of HyperCard.

  35. SIMPLE SYMBOL STORIES

    Simple Symbols Stories is a story reading program designed for use with children with communication disabilities. This program contains 20 stories cleverly read by a variety of people. The stories are written in short rhyming sentences and include humorous illustrations. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh computers.

  36. SIMPLY SILLY ABOUT SYNTAX

    Simply Silly About Syntax is a language training system filled with low-level language exercises designed for individuals of all ages who need repetitive practice expressing basic three and four word sentence structures. This 280-page book uses Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) to create sentences allowing use by both speaking and nonverbal students. Several main characters are used throughout the book so that users get to know them and how they behave, allowing for comparisons and encouragement of language use. One aspect of this program is that the user gets to express "silly" thoughts, reinforcing that language can be fun as well as practical. The book is divided into eight chapters according to what parts of speech and parts of sentences: object, verb, subject, descriptor, verb and objects, subject and verb, verb an descriptor, and the entire sentence. The program focuses on the five main topic areas of grooming, meals, body parts, clothing, and chores. All chapters and topics use consistent and repetitive vocabulary so that the user may concentrate on sentence structure.

  37. SPEAKING DYNAMICALLY & SPEAKING DYNAMICALLY PRO

    Speaking Dynamically and Speaking Dynamically Pro are symbolic communicator, direct selection communicator, and scanning symbol communicator programs designed for making customized, multi-level, picture or word communication boards with speech output. These programs may be used as tools for teaching cause and effect, switches, scanning, symbol training, phrase and sentence structure, spelling, word prediction, or reading activities. As assessment tools, these programs can evaluate augmentative communication needs, the best mode of access for an individual, the best method of training and practice, and the device requirements most beneficial for the individual user. The user designs the activities and decides what actions will occur when a picture is selected. Selecting a picture can activate speech, change screens, or both activate speech and change screens. The final result is a dynamic changing display of multiple screens. A picture may be selected using many different access methods. Using the Speaking Dynamically programs in conjunction with the Mayer-Johnson BoardMaker program (see separate entry) provides access to the more than 3,000 Picture Communication Symbols in the PCS Books I, II, and III. In addition to the features listed below, Speaking Dynamically Pro offers improved graphics handling, word processing, and word prediction; pop-up boards; verb tensing; access improvements; environmental control unit control; and new button actions. FEATURES: Choice of using text to speech or recorded speech; color for symbols, text, or photographs; sentence building buttons, allowing the user to change screens while stringing pictures or text together to make phrases; auditory scanning; multiple scanning modes including normal, step, inverse, group/item, or row/column; variable scanning speed and changeable number of repetitions; adjustable fonts and sizes in both preview and typing displays; and the ability to bring in pictures from the clipboard to customize symbols or scan in photos.   38. STORIES ABOUT ME

    Stories About Me is a communication book designed to allow users of all ages to write and read stories about themselves in order to encourage communication and writing skills, and reinforce basic reading skills such as left to right progression and some sight word reading. Each story in this workbook is 4 to 5 lines long and made primarily with Picture Communication Symbols (PCS). The user fills in the blanks to personalize each story.     This is the One I Want is a communication book designed to provide constructive, organized communication activities for nonverbal individuals. This book integrates the Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) into a series of entertaining but structured activities and exercises. Modes of operation include single message, jumble (messages play in random order), and eliminator (messages occur in random order, but once a message is played, that message is not played again until all messages have been played). Relay/switch output capabilities can be used for cause-effect skill building. Other uses for the Randomizer include greetings, rolling dice, choosing colors for a game, and picking teammates. Volume is adjustable. The device has an external speaker jack, an external switch jack and a relay jack for cause-and-effect use. POWER: Uses 9 volt battery (included).   19. SCHOOL ROUTINES AND RULES CD

    The School Routines and Rules CD is a behavior training flash card program designed for use by parents and teachers of children with cognitive and communication disabilities. This CD contains over 2,000 full-color photographs of young children (ages four to eight years) doing a variety of school routines and activities. The photographs can be used to teach routines and behavioral rules, to set expectations, and to promote skills acquisition and greater independence. Photo folders in this CD include the following content areas: Arrival/departure, art, bathroom, cafeteria, chores, circle time, classroom, facilities, free play, gym, health, math, music, no rules, one-on-one, occupational and physical therapy, reading , recess, science, seat work, speech therapy, supplies, visual aids, writing, and yes rules. The formatting software that comes with this CD is similar to that in Picture This... Standard Edition (see separate entry). COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers and Apple Macintosh computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The IBM and compatible version requires Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP and the Macintosh version requires Mac OS 7.5 or higher. Both versions require a CD-Rom drive and a printer (preferably color).

  20. SUPERTALKER Picture of SUPERTALKER

    SuperTalker is a direct selection and sequential message communicator designed for use by individuals with communication or speech disabilities. This eight-level communicator can be configured in four different grid formats with one, two, four, or eight cells, enabling a child to use the same device as his or her abilities and needs change. The unit has 16 minutes of recording time with variable message lengths. A step-ahead switch jack allows single switch users to play back messages sequentially. Other features include matching keyguards for each grid format; built-in keyguard storage; volume control; eight input jacks for single-switch access to any specific location; and compatibility with BoardMaker (see entry) overlay software. POWER: Uses four double-A batteries (not included).

  21. TALARA-32 Picture of TALARA-32

    The Talara-32 is a direct selection and scanning communicator designed for use by individuals with communication or speech disabilities. This electronic communication aid has a keypad on which the number and size of keys can be changed to a variety of patterns with one to 32 keys. The communicator has four levels, which all use the same key pattern. Up to 45 minutes of messages can be recorded, with no restriction on message length per key. The messages are selected and spoken when the user selects a key either by pressing it directly, or by using a switch with scanning. The messages are usually represented with a paper overlay, which may display pictures, photos, graphics, or words. Available key layouts are 4 x 8, 2 x 1, 4 x 1, 2 x 2, 2 x 4, 4 x 4, or single key. POWER: Uses 4 AA batteries. DIMENSIONS (LxW): Keyboard is 7.75 x 11.5 inches. WEIGHT: 1.75 pounds.

    Tech / Scan 32 and Tech / Scan 32 Plus are direct selection communicators designed for use by individuals with communication disabilities. These direct selection communicators can play back 32 separate messages per level on two, four, or six levels. Messages can be scanned in three different modes (Linear, Step, and Row/Column) at three different scan speeds (slow, fast, and medium). The scanning grid provides the user an uninterrupted view of the scanning lights without having to look through a hole in the overlay. This makes changing overlays easy for therapists, family members, and users by eliminating the need to punch holes into the overlays. Tech Scan 32 Plus has an audio prompt (an audible beep) to provide a scanning cue for users with low vision. These direct selection communicators are similar to Tech/Speak 32 (see separate entry), with the addition of scanning and/or audible scanning cues. Messages on both models are spoken in high-quality "Real Voice" audio. Messages are activated by a light touch on the surface of the message cells. Functions are controlled by switches on the back. There is an adjustable on/off volume control and level switch. The devices automatically turn off when not activated after five scanning sweeps, and turn back on with a touch of the user switch. These devices are drop resistant, able to withstand rough handling, such as falling off of a table or being thrown against a wall, and water resistant for easy cleaning, making them hygienic as well as resistant to adverse environmental conditions. A shoulder strap is included. POWER: Uses rechargeable battery pack. The battery provides up to eight hours of use with a recharging time of four hours. An alternating current (AC) charger is included. OPTIONS: Standard (2.25 second) or extended (4.5 second) message time. Tech/Scan 32 is available with two, four, or six levels, 32 messages per level; Tech/Scan 32 Plus is available only in a 6x32 version. WEIGHT: Less than two pounds.

  23. TECH/SCAN 8 & TECH/SCAN 8 PLUS Picture of TECH/SCAN 8 & TECH/SCAN 8 PLUS

    Tech / Scan 8 and Tech / Scan 8 Plus are direct selection communicators designed for use by individuals with communication disabilities. These direct selection communicators each have eight message cells that produce clear audible four-second messages when pressed. Users can select from eight message sets (or levels), for a total of 64 messages. These devices are similar to Tech/Talk 8x8 (see separate entry) with the addition of scanning and audible prompts. On both of these direct selection communicators, the message cells can be scanned using a light emitting diode (LED) built into the case. Users can scan at three speeds, in linear or single switch step scan mode. In addition, Tech/Scan 8 Plus has an audible prompt, a beep that can be turned on or off. Both devices have a simple rotary on/off volume control, a level select switch, a built-in speaker and built-in recording, and jacks for external inputs or outputs. OPTIONS: Carrying case. DIMENSIONS: Message cells are 2.5 x 2.5 inches.

  24. VOICE SWITCH Picture of VOICE SWITCH

    The Voice Switch is a sound-based control switch designed for use by individuals with neurological or severe physical disabilities, and a sound production training device designed for use by individuals with speech disabilities. This device provides a switch closure to control connected assistive technology in response to sound production, and it can be used to train sound production capability by persons with speech disabilities, including persons who have limited ability to produce sounds with the larynx or voice box because of cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, brainstem stroke, or nerve damage due to injury or surgery. The device comes in a plastic case and all controls are on the front panel, while the input and output ports are located on the top panel. It is equipped with a removable belt clip.The unit contains software that analyzes an incoming sound to determine if it is human speech. The switch can be set up by the user to only accept speech sounds, or to accept any sound (including speech sounds) that meets the input requirements. Two knobs on the top panel enable the user to set the sound duration and volume required to activate the output relay. The third knob adjusts the volume of the auditory feedback to the user indicating that a sound has met the input requirements. The output relay is activated for 0.1 second (100 milliseconds). POWER: Uses two double-A batteries. DIMENSIONS: 4.5 x 2.5 x 0.75 inches. WEIGHT: Less than one pound.
