  4. E-MOTION Picture of E-MOTION

E-Motion is a power assist for wheelchairs designed for use by individuals with mobility disabilities. This unit can be retrofitted to most manual wheelchairs simply by replacing the existing rear push wheels with the e-motion wheels and installing a universal bracket on the wheelchair frame. The quiet brushless, gearless electric motors are located in the wheel hubs. The unit offers three different levels of power that can be selected at the touch of a button. Stage 1 offers a 30 percent power assist and is suitable for indoor use; stage 2 provides a 50 percent power assist and is suitable for outdoor use on even terrain; stage 3 offers 100 percent power assist for uphill driving or use on uneven terrain. Sensitivity can be adjusted by turning a small handwheel and each wheel can be adjusted independently of the other. Holding on to the pushrims activates the Servo brakes and aids in controlling speed on downhill inclines. A slightly firmer grip on the pushrims stops the chair completely. When the e-motion is turned off, the wheelchair can be propelled manually. The quick-release e-motion wheels can be removed to enable the chair to be transported. The standard wheels have spokes and are equipped with pneumatic tires and aluminum pushrims. The standard manual wheels of the chair are interchangeable with the e-motion wheels. The unit does not interfere with folding a chair or with seating and positioning adaptations. POWER: Uses one removable maintenance-free, rechargeable NiCdbattery pack for each wheel to provide a range of up to six miles. Indicator lights show the current battery charge and an audio indicator sounds when the charge falls below a pre-determined level. The battery packs may be recharged on or off the wheels. A battery charger is included. Sets of spare battery packs and a converter for charging batteries using a vehicle cigarette lighter are available.
