    The Apollo 2 Desktop Speech Synthesizer is a multi-lingual speech synthesizer designed to be used in conjunction with screen reader and text reading software by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This synthesizer provides high-quality speech output through its own built-in loudspeaker. Designed for rapid response, speech output can be stopped with a single keystroke. The unit plugs into the serial port of any desktop, laptop, or notebook computer and includes a choice of four languages from 30 available, a power supply, and a connector cord.

    Cicero Text Reader is a reading machine program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This reading machine program uses optical character recognition (OCR) to turn a personal or laptop computer connected to a scanner into a reading machine with voice, large print, or braille output. It scans documents using Recognita's 32-bit OCR engine, and starts talking automatically as soon as the page scan is complete. The user can start and stop speech instantly with a key press, or browse through a document using the cursor keys. Users with low vision can view the document on screen in large print, with a choice of high contrast colors and fonts. The program also supports refreshable braille displays, and can export scanned text directly to a braille translation program (not included) for the production of embossed braille documents.     The Dolphin Pen is an access software pen drive designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This USB pen drive device comes loaded with Dolphin Computer Access software, and allows users to carry the software with them and run it on any personal computer (PC) on which Dolphin Interceptor software has been installed (this software can be installed from the pen drive if it has not been previously installed on the PC). The device is available with one of four computer access programs: Supernova screen reader / screen magnifier software, Hal screen reader software, Lunar screen magnification software, or Lunar Plus screen magnifier / screen reader software (see separate entries). When the device is inserted into a computer's USB port, the access software begins running automatically with the user’s personal settings.     The EaseReader DAISY Player is a digital talking book player program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The program enables publishers of audio e-books to deliver text and audio content that is protected from unauthorized copying, viewing, or editing of the source text. Content published using this program can be played back on DAISY-format playback devices, but cannot be copied, edited, or distributed in other formats. When content is viewed in applications such as Internet Explorer or a word processor, it appears as scrambled text.

  5. HAL SCREEN READER

    HAL Screen Reader is a screen reader program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The program provides speech output and also provides braille output for users of refreshable braille displays. It reads word processor documents and web pages, and recognizes Windows dialogs, icons, buttons, menus, and controls. When it is installed on a network or a server, it can be used from any terminal and can be switched on or off as required, giving the user the freedom to move around a building or campus. Users can save their preferred settings and retrieve them from wherever they choose to log on. The program comes with a print manual, quick reference cards in print and braille, and an audio manual and interactive tutorials on CD. Technical support is available by telephone and e-mail.
