The program is installed with a talking installer. A dictionary permits the user to modify the way specific words are pronounced. It is designed to make popular office applications, including Microsoft Office 2000 and 97, Outlook 98, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Eudora Pro and Lite, and other Windows applications, accessible to individuals who are blind or have low vision. Speech output can be customized for any application by defining Active Areas of the screen in which predefined actions are performed automatically or using just one key combination. For example: read text in an Active Area, speak a message when the content of the Active Area changes, move the mouse pointer, play an audio wave file, etc. The program tracks and selects cells in Microsoft Excel, reads tooltip texts on appearance, and automatically reads message boxes and warning dialogs. On the Internet, this screen reader program handles frames and offers improved support for cycling through hyperlinks by using the tab and shift keys. It works with Internet browsers like Netscape and Internet Explorer. It reads sentences naturally, recognizing punctuation and adjusting voice inflections accordingly.
