The Community Integration Suite is a prompter and cognitive aid designed for use by individuals with cognitive disabilities. Simplified access to a handheld Pocket PC (not included) provides time-based schedule prompting, as well as personalized task prompting with digital pictures, video, and auditory instructions. Users traveling to work, school, or into the community have access to calendar reminders and support for important vocational and educational tasks. COMMUNITY SIDEKICK
Community Sidekick is a personal location tracking program designed for use with people who have autism, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, brain injury and other cognitive disabilities. This application (or "app") is designed for use with the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to notify the user's friends, family members or caregivers of the exact location of him or her. The first time the user starts the program, he or she can enter and save email addresses of people to be notified of his or her location. The user launches Community Sidekick at the beginning of a trip, and the program sends an email with the time and current location of the user. The program then automatically sends out a "Current Location" email at the selected time interval, which can be 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Settings can be changed by touching and holding the title bar for five seconds. The user can also tap and hold the "MESSAGE" button for three seconds and select the button "I am OK" or "Please Contact Me" to send out an email message. When the user arrives at his or her destination or back home, he or she taps and holds the "DONE" button to automatically send out an email message with current time and location information. This application covers the following skill areas: Community Skills, Personal Skills, and Transition and Transportation Skills. The Community Skills area includes 15 cognitively accessible learning sessions on the community, including the following topics: Doors, Stores, Barbershops, Restaurants, and Fast Food Restaurants. JOB QUEST FOR WINDOWS XP
Job Quest for Windows XP is a vocational planning and job placement assessment program designed for use with individuals with cognitive disabilities. This assessment software program presents 60 video clips representing 12 job categories in a forced choice format. After both job video clips in a pair have been viewed, users are prompted to select the job they liked best. This process continues until all video clips have viewed (approximately 20 to 25 minutes). Assessments can be personalized by teachers or staff by limiting the number of job categories represented, limiting the number of video clips per category, or shortening the length of each video clip. After each assessment, results are retained in the system and three different reports providing varying levels of detail can be requested and printed. One of the reports is largely picture-based and is intended for review by the end-user. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. Living Safely features 27 learning sessions: 13 cognitively accessible learning sessions on Home Safety and 14 cognitively accessible learning sessions on Personal Safety. MY HEALTH, MY CHOICE, MY RESPONSIBILITY
My Health, My Choice, My Responsibility is a personal skills and independent living tutorial program for people with cognitive or developmental disabilities or their therapists. This application (or "app") is designed for use with the Apple iPad to teach important topics necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Developed with the Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD), this program is designed to be used directly by users with special needs to learn about healthy living in a self-directed manner or as part of a group learning activity facilitated by an instructor using the included trainer's manual. The user learns to make healthy choices in daily life and to speak up for good health. This training program includes eight sessions and topics covered include: Taking Charge of Your Health; Develop a Health Plan; Be a Health Self-Advocate; Get Moving; Eat Right; Be Healthy at Home; Feel Good About Yourself and Others; and Stay on Track. The user watches a video covering the selected health topic with each session, reviews "Things to Remember" using the AbleLink Instructional Media Standard (AIMS) multimedia training system, and completes a short survey to test their knowledge using AbleLink's ATLAS cognitively accessible testing system. Three additional health tools are available online for use with the program: My Medical Appointment (a form to help the user prepare for medical appointments); Health Information Form (a record of a person's health needs and medical history); and My Health Plan (a listing of goals developed during the seminar). WAYFINDER
WayFinder is an audible mobility and personal location tracking program, cognitive aid, prompter, and voice output navigation system designed for use by individuals with cognitive and memory disabilities or who are blind or have low vision. This software is for a personal digital assistant (PDA) (not included) and uses GPS (global positioning satellite)–based personalized audio and visual cues to support independent travel via bus systems and on foot. WayFinder enables the user to create specific travel routes and activate them from the GPS location. The user receives customized audio and visual instructions to prompt him or her through route navigation. When installed on a Smartphone with active service, the program also allows remote caregivers to send a text message to WayFinder and an automatic text message is sent back with a map link showing the current location of the user. WayFinder can be used as a stand-alone application or added to the Community Integration Suite or Pocket Endeavor Suite (see separate entries).
