By circling (tracking) each letter in one continuous movement while saying the letter name, the learner uses visual and kinesthetic senses while learning the phonic components of the words. Writing out the spelling from memory, saying the letter names or mnemonic as the learner does so provides reinforcement of correct letter formation.

The Skoog connects to a computer via a USB cable (included), and it produces sound through the computer utilizing the Skoogmusic software, which included with the Skoog on a CD-ROM. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers or Macintosh computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 3.1 or higher or Macintosh System 7 or higher, a 486 or faster processor, and a CD-ROM drive.

This program utilizes zoo animals as a theme and can be operated with a mouse, the space bar, a single switch, or a touch screen. Users perform activities such as picture matching, choice making, and matching pictures to the spoken word. The level of difficulty can be changed to meet the needs of different users. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 3.1 or higher and a CD-ROM drive.

  44. TEACHER'S CUPBOARD

    Teacher's Cupboard is a language tutorial program designed for use by children with learning and reading disabilities. Available in a home user version or a single-user school version, this programs draw young learners into magical lands with kangaroos and giants to find the gifts teachers desire. This interactive literacy program offers two adventures to lead children through focused literacy activities where they practice skills such as identifying beginning letter sounds, story sequencing, and filling in missing words from a selection of pictures. The program provides assistance with difficult words and all text is narrated at the reader's pace with wor-by-word highlighting. A repeat speech button enables users to hear unfamiliar words as many time as needed. Photocopiable resource materials and a comprehensive teacher's guide are included. COMPATIBILITY: The CD-ROM includes versions for use on IBM and compatible or Macintosh computers with or without a network. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The IBM and compatible version required a 486, 33 megaHertz (MHz) or faster processor, Windows 3.1 or better, 8 megabytes (MB) RAM, a 2X CD-ROM drive, sound card, and SVGA graphics. The Macintosh version requires an LCII processor, 8 MB RAM, 2X CD-ROM drive, and a 640 x 480 256-color monitor.

  45. TELL A TALE Picture of TELL A TALE

    Tell A Tale is a story writing program designed for use by children with cognitive or learning disabilities. This program encourages children to write their own three-sentence stories using the 100 combination offered by the software. Each story has an opening, a setting, an actor, and action, all illustrated with animation. The program also offers clear narration in male or female voices, highlighted text, and an interface simple enough for early learners. Full teacher controls and three levels of difficulty permit differential instruction. Other features include print and playback story options, as well as a set of printable worksheets for work away from the computer. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers with or without a network or Macintosh Power PC. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95 or higher, 16 megabytes (MB) RAM, SVGA graphics, 4X speed CD-ROM, and a sound card. The program is compatible with Windows XP Home or Professional Editions. The Mac Power PC requires Operating System 8.1 or higher, 4X speed CD-ROM, and 32 MB RAM.

    Touch Fun Fair is a control switch training program designed for use by young children with cognitive or multiple disabilities. The activities include Ghost Train, Coconut Shy, Darts, Ring Toss, Grab Bag, and Bumper Cars and develop cause and effect, visual discrimination, matching, and mouse skills. The program can be accessed with a mouse or a touch screen. COMPATIBILITY: Versions are available for use on Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Macintosh version requires an LC III or faster processor, 8 MB RAM, a 256-color monitor, a CD-ROM drive, and System 7. The Windows version requires Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 or 98, 16 to 32 MB RAM, a SVGA monitor, CD-ROM drive, sound card, and speakers.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Macintosh version requires an LC III or faster processor, 8 MB RAM, a 256-color monitor, CD-ROM drive, and System 7.     Touch Here! is a visual stimulation activity designed for use by individuals with profound disabilities. The program provides visual stimulation by displaying a variety of light patterns and animations. Patterns appear wherever the touch screen is touched or at the cursor position when the mouse is clicked. Options enable color preferences to be set. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Pentium or better processor, Windows 95, or CD-ROM drive.
