  1. VIDEOTIM Picture of VIDEOTIM

    VideoTIM is a tactile reader and graphics display designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This device combines a small handheld videocamera with a tactile display unit called TIM (tactile interactive monitor). The user puts one hand on the display unit and uses the other hand to move the camera unit, which resembles a computer mouse, over the document or picture to be examined. A tactile representation of the text or picture appears in real time on a piezoelectric display, which has 256 dots that rise and fall to form relief images. Letters can be increased or decreased in size. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): Display unit is 6 x 14 x 20 centimeters. The piezoelectric display is 4 x 4 centimeters. WEIGHT: With camera, approximately 800 grams (28 ounces).
