    The Darwin Reader is a digital talking book player program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This application (or app) enables a cell phone or tablet computer running the Android operating system to function as a voice output electronic book reader for full-text, full-audio, and combined books and other print media in the standard DAISY 2.02 and 3.0 formats. Darwin Reader has a voice input search feature, and the user can download books directly into their device with Benetech BookShare library and LibriVox, or transfer DAISY books from their computer. Two modes of operation are available during playback. In the “Eyes-Free” mode, the user swipes their finger across the screen to move between sentences and sections. In the graphical mode, the user navigates by tapping the stylized graphics on the screen. The user can jump to a specific chapter, book section, page, paragraph, sentence, or word. The app also allows the user to change the font and background color, text size, font spacing, voice speed, and punctuation speech. Text is highlighted in a large, colored font as the book is read to the user. COMPATIBILITY: For use with a phone or tablet running the Android operating system.     The Darwin Wallet is a voice output money identification program for people with blindness, low vision or cognitive disabilities. It is designed to be used with a cell phone running the Android operating system. The app uses the phone's camera to detect currency denominations for U.S., U.K., Canadian, European Union, and Australian bills. The user holds the bill in front of the phone’s camera, and then the app will analyze the image of the bill and speak its value. COMPATIBILITY: For use with a mobile phone running the Android operating system. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Android 2.2 or later.

    The SpeakEasy Media System is a computer-based voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or who have low vision. Using audio menus and minimal keyboard commands, users may navigate to different features of the system. Features include: Scan & Read (works like a traditional reading machine); news article browsing; web searches; a talking reference section with dictionary, thesaurus, and encyclopedia; e-mail; audio books, including a Daisy book reader, audio books, and audio books on tape from the internet; radio; podcasts; weather forecasts; and many others. The full Media System package includes a laptop computer running Windows, flatbed scanner, iPod portable player, SpeakEasy System Software, Scan & Read, and two years of free upgrades on the software. The SpeakEasy Media System Basic does not include Scan & Read, software upgrades, or iPod. SpeakEasy Media System Software Lite is software only with limited Scan & Read capability. COMPATIBILITY: The software is designed for use on IBM and compatible computers running Windows. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows XP, 2000, or Vista.

    The SpeakEasy Reading Machine is a voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or who have low vision. This machine reads printed text (newspapers, magazines, books, bills, etc.) or document files from a USB thumb drive, aloud in a choice of two high-fidelity, human-like voices. It also allows users who have the internet to access audio books from the web. The arcade-style controller enables the user to manage documents intuitively. Documents can be read continuously, line by line, word by word, or letter by letter. The unit can also back up and replay missed information and documents can bew saved for later retrieval. OPTIONS: Optional upgrades from the basic package include a portable player (to listen to documents on the go) and a flat screen liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor to use the Scan & Magnify feature.
