Smart Shift is a driving control system designed for use by individuals with upper extremity disabilities. This stand-alone electronic gear selector includes a touchpad control and actuator that offer touch-button access to park, reverse, neutral, and drive. A Drive 2 option can be configured for low gear in most applications. Each raised tactile button on the touchpad features center illumination and a universal icon; the buttons are widely spaced to prevent inadvertent function activation. This shift control system can be installed into any vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission. When a button is depressed on the touchpad, the actuator moves the transmission to the selected gear, then stops automatically and illuminates the LED (light emitting diode) indicator. As a safety feature, the brake must be applied in order for the actuator to move to the desired gear. The actuator mounts near the transmission in a weatherproof enclosure. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): Touchpad is 3 x 1 x 5.5 inches.
