The Power Headrest is a powered headrest and driving control system designed for use by individuals with upper extremity disabilities, severe physical disabilities, or spinal cord injury. This headrest features motorized activation to swing it into position for driving and to the storage position for unencumbered exit and entry into driving position. Its driving control function enables drivers with disabilities that limit hand/finger usage while driving to access turn signals, horn, dimmer, wiper, or cruise functions without removing their hands from the gas, brake, or steering controls while the vehicle is in motion. The headrest is available with one or six control buttons or in a no-button version without driving controls. The single-button headrest utilizes one switch for access through head movement. It can be used in conjunction with Digitone or Digivoice driving controls (see separate entries), and can operate up to eight functions when used in conjunction with Digitone. The single switch is mounted to the side to enable drivers to use the headrest to steady themselves while driving without contacting the switch inadvertently. The six-button headrest has six individual switches for access to up to six functions. The six switches are mounted across the headrest and therefore do not allow the drivers to use the headrest to steady themselves while driving without contacting switches inadvertently.
