Retained in database for reference. -- The Sound Switch is a sound activated control switch designed for use by individuals with limited ability to produce sounds with the larynx or voice box because of cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, brainstem stroke, or nerve damage due to injury or surgery. The switch can be activated by any sound, such as smacking the lips or tongue, humming, or saying a word. It can be used to control an electronic device such as an augmentative and alternative communication device, environmental control, toy, computer game, or a relay device that enables the control of an attached electronic appliance such as a blender, radio, or light. It provides a switch closure to control other assistive devices in response to sound production. All controls are on the front panel, while the input and output ports are located on the top panel. It comes with a removable belt clip and one cable terminated with 1/8-inch mono plugs for interfacing to assistive devices. The system requires a microphone headset (not included). OPTIONS: Ear-bud cell phone microphone; throat-microphone for users who can make a humming sound. POWER: Uses two double-A batteries (included). DIMENSIONS: 4.5 x 2.5 x 0.75 inches. WEIGHT: Less than one pound.
