KURZWEIL 1000
Kurzweil 1000 is an optical character recognition (OCR) program with voice output designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision. This software package runs on a personal computer connected to a flatbed scanner. It scans books, magazine articles, and other printed documents, converts the printed text into electronic text files, and reads them aloud using RealSpeak, a human-sounding synthetic speech engine. Scanned documents can be edited using a text editor with voice output. Definitions, synonyms, and spell checking are provided by a dictionary and thesaurus containing 175,000 words. Scanned files can be sent to portable devices such as braille notetakers. The program also retains images from scanned documents and displays them on the screen in a wide variety of magnification levels. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers.
