(Verified 02/2010) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The DynaVox 3100 is a voice output communication board designed for use as an augmentative communication aid by individuals with cerebral palsy, head injury, post stroke, and other neurological disabilities affecting the ability to speak. It can also be used as an educational tool for persons with learning disabilities and people with mental retardation. This device features the manufacturer's DynaVox System Software (DSS) communication software and a large LCD activre matrix display touch screen which enables 77 standard sized communication square buttons to be displayed on a single page. The dynamic touch screen leads the user through the same natural message-formation process that creates normal speech, with simple, logical choices. The device's processing speed ensures virtually no waiting time between message selection and speaking by the DECTalk voice synthesis software in a choice of 10 voices from child to adult in male or female. The unit also offers 14 adjustable speech perameters and digitized speech using the unit's built-in microphone. The DSS software also provides AutoZoom which causes the area around the initial selection to enlarge to facilitate subsequent selections. In addition to the standard touch screen, messages may be accessed via audio touch; mouse-compatible pointing device; visual and auditory scanning, with auto, two-switch, and inverse auto scan options; and mult-switch and joystick scanning. The touch screen features adjustable hold/release times and touch enter/exit modes. Other standard features include a 16 megabyte memory card for storage of thousands of communication pages, a built-in carrying handle, manual, and a detachable protective screen cover. The unit is equipped with a standard switch port, a multi-switch/joystick port, a serial port, a parallel port, an external monitor port, a speaker port, and infrared environmental control learning and computer access. POWER: Uses a built-in rechargeable dual 9.6-volt NiMH battery pack for 10 hours of continuous use. A 24-volt direct current (DC) 2 amp wall transformer/ charger is included. OPTIONS: Replacement manuals in Spanish or English, soft padded carrying case, additional wall transformers, keyguards, replacement carrying handle, computer connection cables, computer back-up kits, and more.
