Picture of DISCOVER:SWITCH The Discover:Switch is a single-switch keyboard modification and on-screen keyboard program designed to enable children with physical disabilities to access popular educational software. The voice-output switch enables students to use educational software, send e-mail, and operate multimedia programs. The switch includes all necessary software to enable it to display and speak a standard keyboard layout or to display and speak words, phrases, or sentences displayed in a keyboard-style matrix. With built-in scanning capability, the user presses the switch to display the scanning keyboard capability on screen. When the desired key is highlighted, the user presses the switch again to select it. The system includes the large-surface switch with on/off control, two jacks to connect the user's personal switches, and a permanently attached cable for ease of connection; 40 ready-to-use scanning keyboards; Easy Numbers for math; Easy Mouse for internet access; and Discover:Create software for customizing keyboards, voices, and set-up. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh or IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Macintosh computers require an ABD port or iMate adapter, System 7.5.3 or later, a 68030 processor or better, six megabytes (MB) of hard disk space, eight MB RAM, and CD-ROM drive. IBM and compatible computers require a Pentium or better processor, Windows 95 or higher, a minimum of 16 MB RAM, a minimum of 35 MB hard disk space, CD-ROM drive, and a Sound Blaster or compatible sound card. DIMENSIONS: The switch surface is five inches in diameter.
