--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 12/2000) REPLACED BY CO:WRITER 4000 (SEE SEPARATE ENTRY). RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Co:Writer is a word prediction software program that uses artificial intelligence to predict words based on subject-verb agreement, grammar rules, word relationships, proper names, frequencey, redundancy, frequency, and user preference for individuals who struggle with writing due to physical limitation, language delay, or learning disability. As a person types, this program offers the choice of up to ten words at once as selections for the next word to be typed. To use one of the "predicted" choices, the user simply selects the desired word and that word is automatically inserted into the user's text with capitalization or spacing as appropriate. This prediction program uses a built-in dictionary and a personalized vocabulary created by the user's word choices. Features of the program include the ability to change the font size to increase visibility of the predicted word list; use of the speech option to hear word choices before or after they are selected for the sentence; placement of the Co:Writer window anywhere on the screen; choice of the two, ten, or forty thousand word dictionaries for word predictions (the bigger the dictionary, the more sophisticated the word choices); addition of words that have personal significance to the user; the ability to save personal references so the program will use them every time. Co:Writer 2.0 is the 1994 update version of this software. This upgrade features the X:PND feature with which the user can add several phrases with the same abbreviation. Expansions are intelligently predicted along with single words. Either can be chosen for speech output. Version 2.0 also has MacinTalk II. COMPATIBILITY: Versions are available for use on Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Macintosh version requires an SE or better, System 7 or higher, and 9 megabytes (MB) RAM. The IBM and compatible version requires a 486 or better processor, Windows95, Sound Blaster or compatible sound card, and 4 MB RAM.
