The ComLink ST-Lite is a direct selection and scanning communicator designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities and severe physical or neurological disabilities. This device comes with a SoundPOD wearable augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. Users can remove the wireless SoundPOD from its magnetic docking cradle located on the back of the ST-Lite and then attach it to a lanyard (included) that fits around the user's neck. Users can convert back and forth from the neck-worn in-use configuration and the docked configuration with minimal dexterity requirements. With the SoundPOD worn on the neck lanyard, voice output originates from the upper body and the audio stream is directed toward the person being talked to, providing a more natural communication experience. The SoundPOD's small size and lightweight design allow it to be slipped underneath a shirt for a discrete and hidden communication solution. Designed to be fully accessible, the ST-Lite supports a range of access methods, including touch screen (press, hold time-out), visual and auditory scanning (up to 8 switches), joysticks, sip and puff switches, optical head mouse, and voice recognition. The device features the Life-Links Communication Suite with the progressive language development offerings of Language-Links covering both pragmatic and semantically based approaches to the extremely comprehensive capabilities of the Language-Links, Symbol-Links and Text-Links packages. Also included are the Key-links page set package providing an extensive assortment of on-screen keyboard layouts; Net-Links page set package with pages with tools necessary to successfully navigate the internet and email programs; Enviro-links page set package to be added to the chosen communication page set to provide access to the environmental controls built in to the device; Social-links communication package designed to allow users to actively participate in the social media options like Facebook and Twitter; Learning-links complements the school-age user’s communication page set, providing subject-specific page sets including math, reading, testing, spelling and more; and Leisure-links with a collection of fun-filled pages with games and activities. The ComLink ST-Lite is equipped with a 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) Intel Atom Z530 processor, Windows 7, and a Super Sharp Touch Panel Display (1024 x 768 pixel resolution). It can function as a tablet computer in the standard configuration, but it is also available as a dedicated speech generating device (SGD). Other features include a built-in microphone, eight Acepela user-selectable adult and child synthesized voices, integrated Bluetooth and WiFi, automatic user file backup, a Product Tour that lets the user take a "test drive" of the pre-built page sets and ComLink ST-Lite's capabilities, a handwriting recognition feature and accompanying page integration that works seamlessly with word prediction for fast, effective speech output, and the built-in FRS Remote Help Desk to enable skilled technical support team members to take control of the device remotely to solve technical issues, upload and download files or page sets, or show the user how to perform a programming function on the device. The user must grant permission and provide the ID number to permit access to the Remote Help Desk feature. The unit has a FlexABLE Handle that is designed to be easy to grip, even for those with very limited hand dexterity. The FlexABLE Stand enables the user to optimize visibility and reduce screen glare induced by overhead lighting. It also has industrialized construction with strong magnesium-aluminum case materials together with high impact ABS to provide durability and ruggedness as well as integrated protective rubber "bumper" guards that not only provide an ease to handle gripping surface but also work to absorb shock during rough handling. The device is equipped with LED indicators for power (on: blue, standby: blue blinking); battery (charging: amber, low: red blinking, fully charged with direct current (DC) connected: green); and wireless networking (active: blue).
