The ComLink ULTRA is a direct selection and scanning communicator designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities and severe physical or neurological disabilities. Designed to be fully accessible, the ULTRA supports a range of access methods, including touch screen (press, hold time-out), visual and auditory scanning (up to 8 switches), joysticks, sip and puff switches, optical head mouse, voice recognition, and eye tracking (Enable Eyes required; see separate entry). The device features the ComLink Communication Suite with 4,000 pre-programmed pages categorized by type and suited to meet the needs of augmented communicators of all ages and proficiency. The ComLink software allows for message formulation by letters, words, phrases, symbols and pictures. The ComLink ULTRA is equipped with a 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) Intel Atom processor with Windows XP Tablet. It can function as a tablet computer in the standard configuration, but it is also available as a dedicated speech generating device (SGD). Other features include a built-in microphone, a Super Sharp Touch Panel Display (1024 x 600 pixel resolution), eight Acepela user-selectable adult and child synthesized voices, integrated WiFi and Bluetooth, automatic user file backup, the Product Tour that lets the user take a "test drive" of the pre-built page sets and ComLink ULTRA capabilities at any time, a handwriting recognition feature and accompanying page integration that works seamlessly with word prediction for fast, effective speech output, and the built-in FRS Remote Help Desk to enable skilled technical support team members to take control of the device remotely to solve technical issues, upload and download files or page sets, or show the user how to perform a programming function on the device. The user must grant permission and provide the ID number to permit access to the Remote Help Desk feature. The unit has a FlexABLE Handle that is designed to be easy to grip, even for those with very limited hand dexterity. The FlexABLE Stand enables the user to optimize visibility and reduce screen glare induced by overhead lighting. It also has industrialized construction with high-impact ABS+PC polymer case materials to provide durability and ruggednes. The device is equipped with LED indicators for Power (ON: green, standby: green blinking); battery (Plugged in: blinking red, blinking amber, and blinking green indicate battery level and solid green indicates full charge. On batteries: Red indicates 0 to 20 percent charge, amber indicates 20 to 70 percent charge, and green indicates 70 to 100 percent charge); and active Bluetooth (blue). Also included are a USB keyboard, a USB wireless mouse, communication software CDs (2 additional activations), a stylus, and a quick start guide. The unit is pre-loaded with Grid 2 software, Symbol Stix, and Widget software. POWER: Uses an internal lithium ion smart battery or the included alternating current (AC) adapter. The system enables hot swap battery exchange, allowing te battery to be changed without turning off the device. OPTIONS: PCS and Tobii Communicator software and environmental control.
