Practice Reports: Using the Braille Lite to Produce Mathematical Expressions in Print

By Kapperman, Gaylen; Sticken, Jodi; Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, Vol. 97, No. 11, pp. 704-709
Publication Date: November 2003

Article discusses a strategy for using the Braille Lite to produce mathematical symbols in print. The Braille Lite, which is produced by Freedom Scientific, is a Braille input notetaker that is equipped with synthetic speech and a refreshable Braille display. The procedure is outlined in step-by-step format. The authors believe that the strategy presented in the article can enable students who are blind or have low vision to achieve higher levels of independence, as they do not have to rely on sighted individuals to produce print mathematics.
