Essentials of Hearing Aid Selection, Part 3: Perception Is Reality

By Mynders, Joel M., BC-HIS; Hearing Review, Vol. 11, No. 2, pp. 22-24, 75
Publication Date: February 2004

Article addresses how clients’ feedback and perceptions can be utilized by hearing professionals to assist in the hearing aid selection process. Many hearing care professionals believe that their selection methods should be logical, methodical, empathetic, and synergistic, providing clients with optimal amplification. Selection can be influenced by personal needs and lifestyle, traditional audiometric measures, prescriptive formulae, and by paired comparisons. In every case, hearing professionals are encouraged to consider client feedback before prescribing a specific device or adaptation.
