AT Network's Online Services Directory Surpasses 1,000 Entries

By AT Journal, Vol. 96, No. 1
Publication Date: May 2004

Article discusses the AT Network’s online services directory, which is located at http://www.atnet.org on the web. The directory has surpassed 1,000 entries of vendors and organizations that provide assistive technology (AT) services in California, including services for funding, renting, purchasing, and testing devices. The database was created by the AT Network’s centralized staff, and by AT advocates at California’s 29 Independent Living Centers, who contributed the databases of their local resources. The database has several features to make searching for AT simple. Users can search geographically for service providers within 25, 50, or 100 miles of their home, or they can search the entire state. The directory also has a review feature in which consumers can share input and discuss their experiences with a specific vendor or service provider. Counselors and other professionals who work with consumers can build customized contact lists that can be printed for the customer to consider. The public can also contribute to the directory by adding information regarding vendors and organizations that the network has yet to discover. All submissions are verified by the AT Network staff before being added to the directory.
