PEMSTAR Receives Multiple Awards for Mobile Device; Design for Visually Impaired Receives Top International Honors

Article describes the ALVA MPO 5500, which combines a Global System for Mobile Communications cell phone with a personal organizer, text messenger, a notetaker, and a Braille display. Using small dynamic dots within a total of 20 cells, the device depicts Braille in place of a standard display. The user has access to all of the functions of the device using a line of refreshable Braille characters, or the device can be voice-driven via menu-navigated instructions.
