Technological Tools and Challenges in the Tactile Adaptation of Images

By Trudeau, Nicole, PhD; Assistive Technology - Shaping the Future: AAATE 2003 Conference Proceedings, Vol. 11, No. 1, pp. 486-489
Publication Date: 2003

Paper presents a case for the standardization of tactile adaptations of visual images, which may be accomplished with a prototype tool called GRAPHTACT. The tool is composed of three blank analytical worksheets, each of which is designed to serve a specific purpose: (1) as a guide to identify and articulate the graphical content of a text; (2) as a guide to the description of the content and the organization of each of the pages of the book; and (3) as a guide to the detailed description of each of the images contained in the text. The three pages are referred to as visual data worksheets, and they can be applied to each page and image in a book. GRAPHTACT was in the process of validation and development at the time the paper was composed.
