Publishing Accessible WWW Presentations From Power Point Slide Presentations

By Gunderson, Jon, PhD; Linder, Dan, MS; RESNA 26th International Annual Conference 2003,

Paper describes the Power Point HTML Accessibility Plug-In, which allows Microsoft Power Point Presentations to be published in an accessible HTML format for the Internet. Power Point is a program designed for creating and presenting instructional materials in higher education. The tool automatically generates text equivalents for common characters, and supports the instructor in generating text alternatives for images that are used in educational settings, such as pie, bar, and scatter point charts. The text can be translated by assistive technology, such as screen readers. A technological diagram of the application is presented. Implications for further advances are discussed.
