FCC Decision Reduces Video Relay Service Compensation

By AT Journal, Vol. 102, No. 1
Publication Date: September 2004

Article discusses a reduction in the compensation rate for Video Relay Services (VRS) by a June 30, 2004 Order of the Chief, Consumer and Government Affairs Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. The author contends that VRS is the best quality relay service for people who utilize visual communication, such as American Sign Language. The reduction in price is believed to bring the onset of a reduction in both the service’s availability and quality of service. The lack of quality and availability has the potential to severely impair communication for people who rely on VRS on a regular basis.
