Success Story: Rebecca Pratte

Article discusses the use of an accessible shopping cart by a woman who used a manual wheelchair. The cart allowed her to shop independently, as it had a plastic basket to hold groceries with metal legs on wheels. The cart also utilized Velcro that would attach to the front of her wheelchair, allowing her to push the cart throughout the store. The cart was eventually stolen from the grocery store, and she was not happy with the alternatives provided by the store such as having someone put items in the cart for her, or using a difficult-to-maneuver scooter with a shopping cart attached. The woman eventually contacted the Assistive Technology Network in Sacramento, California in order to procure another accessible shopping cart, and was inquiring about having an accessible shopping cart delivered to her local Walmart so that she and other people with disabilities can shop more independently.
