The 5-Year Plan

Article outlines the goals of the Rehabilitation Research Center on Communication Enhancement (AAC-RERC), which is a consortium of partners from around the country who support the research, training, and dissemination of information relating to augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The AAC-RERC is funded by the National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research. Five specific project goals are outlined and discussed: (1) improving the availability of AAC to a more diverse population, (2) meeting the demands of AAC users in today’s society, (3) enhancing AAC usability and performance, (4) improving the access methods to AAC technology, and (5) promoting the compatibility of AAC and common technologies.
