New Website Devoted to Medicare Wheelchair Benefit

By Washington Assistive Technology Alliance (WATA) Bulletin,
Publication Date: January 2005

Article discusses Rightwheelchair.org, which is a website created by the United Spinal Association, the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid Coalition, and the Clinician Task Force. The goal of the site is to reverse Medicare’s in-the-home policy, which restricts subscribers’ access to needed wheelchairs and scooters. Rightwheelchair.org will focus on grassroots activities, and will serve as a vehicle for information regarding Medicare’s coverage and administrative policies related to mobility devices. Site visitors should expect to find important information on Medicare restrictions, and will have the opportunity to share their experiences trying to obtain a wheelchair or scooter for himself or herself, a family member, or a client.
