Early Learning Toolkit 2.0

By Griffin, Kathy; ConnSENSE Bulletin, Vol. 6, No. 4
Publication Date: January 2005

Article discusses the Early Learning Toolkit 2.0, which is a computer drawing/graphics program from 2SimpleUSA, Incorporated. The application consists of six programs: (1) 2paint, (2) 2publish, (3) 2count, (4) 2go, (5) 2graph, and (6) 2question. All of the programs have a simple interface with only a few buttons, all of which are very easy to find and activate, particularly for people with limited hand strength. 2paint is a simple drawing program with eight different color markers, while 2count is a graphing program that counts up to six on the vertical axis. 2go is a map creation program that utilizes colored markers and onscreen directional arrow keys, while 2publish features drawings and text on the same page. The author field-tested the program at the United Cerebral Palsy of Idaho Computer Lab with clients who ranged in age from eight to fifty-four, and who had disabilities such as cerebral palsy, cognitive disabilities, and autism. The author found that all of the programs were very usable and engaging for the participants except for 2question, which was found to be much too confusing. The adults with cognitive disabilities seemed to respond very well to most of the other programs.
