Road Test: An FM System in a Dental Office/Educational Setting
By Dietrich, Stephan, ICID; Hearing Review, Vol. 12, No. 1, pp. 38-42Publication Date: January 2005
Article discusses the use of the LEXIS FM System in a dental clinic setting, where dentist-client communication is a matter of health and safety. The system consists of a transmitter with a built-in directional microphone array, with a small receiver that can attach to any behind-the-ear hearing aid via an audio shoe. The author, who has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss with profound hearing loss in both ears, evaluated the system while taking his practical patient course at the School of Dental Medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander-University in Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, where he needs to communicated with clients and perform dental examinations. The LEXIS FM System was found to perform well in dental education settings, and the author recommends it to dental and medical students and professionals. A technological evaluation of the system is presented.
