Tools for Supporting Students and Professionals in Medical Fields

Four specific devices are included: (1) Brody’s Medical Dictionary and Speller, (2) Spellex UK Medical Spell Checker, (3) Spell Catcher, and (4) the Quicktionary SuperPen Professional. Brody’s Medical Dictionary and Speller is an American English medical dictionary that includes over 40 thousand terms and works in both Windows and Macintosh computers. The dictionary includes hundreds of illustrations and graphics. Spellex UK Medical Spell Checker adds 300 thousand terms into a word processor’s spell check engine, and is available in both dental and pharmaceutical versions. Spell Catcher is a standard phonetic spell checker, and includes a dictionary with United Kingdom medical terms. The program is available in both Windows and Macintosh versions. The Quicktionary SuperPen Professional is a scanning pen that includes a United States medical dictionary. Terms can be scanned and read out loud, while the device displays the term’s definition.
