Wireless Technology in an Open-Ear Solution

By Burton, Pamela, MA; Powers, Thomas A., PhD; Hearing Review, Vol. 12, No. 5, pp. 50-54
Publication Date: May 2005

Article describes ACURIS Life, which is a hearing instrument designed for people with high frequency hearing loss. Seven main device features are discussed: (1) adequate high-frequency amplification, (2) the ability to avoid amplification where hearing is optimal, (3) the ability to avoid loudness discomfort, (4) the ability to avoid acoustic feedback, (5) the ability to avoid the effects of occlusion, (6) cosmetic acceptability, and (7) adequate binaural hearing. The authors contend that ACURIS Life is the first hearing device to effectively combine digital technology for open fittings with wireless communication.
