Article discusses a number of resources for people who want to learn more about speech recognition technology. Two useful books are discussed: (1) Voice Recognition Technology: Factors for Success, by Mick Donegan, and (2) Dragon NaturallySpeaking Complete. Voice Recognition Technology: Factors for Success discusses issues surrounding the use of voice recognition with younger people, and focuses on strategies for people with severe physical disabilities. Useful ideas are included for anyone working with children or adults with disabilities. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Complete is a reference book with a CD that contains hints, tips, and troubleshooting advice for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. The CD contains macros, software utilities, technical manuals, and a list of Windows keyboard shortcuts. Links to a number of user groups are also featured, including the Edinburgh CALL Centre’s Speech Recognition in Schools Project (http://callcentre.education.ed.ac.uk/Research/Speech_Recog_PRA/speech_recog_pra.html) and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Unofficial Information Page (http://www.synapseadaptive.com/joel/index_old.html), which features inside information from one of the product’s designers.
