The Lost Art and New Science of Earmold Selection and Modification

By Taylor, Brian, MA; Younk, Rebecca, MS; Hearing Review, Vol. 12, No. 12, pp. 24-28
Publication Date: November 2005

Paper reviews the evolution of earmold technology, and discusses its relevance in terms of hearing aid selection and modification. The authors discuss the following points in the selection of earmold technology: (1) selecting the right earmold material, (2) selecting the correct earmold style, and (3) earmold modification tips from experts. The authors contend that professionals should consult case studies and expert opinion when making clinical decisions, though attention to this subject is relatively scarce. Due to the scarcity of information, relying on earmold lab managers and scientific evidence are the most efficient first steps in the selection process.
