Boundaries of Real Open Fittings: Clinical Experiences

Article discusses Real Open Systems for hearing aid fittings, which were designed as a solution to reduce occlusion and feedback for people who are using a hearing aid for the first time. The following issues are discussed: (1) limiting factors for open fittings, (2) determining the threshold of feedback, (3) gain in the open ear, and (4) fitting tips for open instruments. The SwissEar from Bernafon is listed as an example of a Real Open System.
