Identification of Assistive Technology Service Elements Across Four European Countries

By Cudd, P.A.; Nava, F.; Boyle, B.; Aalykke, s.; Deleval, V.; Girard, D.; Menendez, R.; Ruiz, M.; Scaviner, A.; Assistive Technology: From Virtuality to Reality, Vol. 16, No. 1, pp. 23-28
Publication Date: 2005

Paper discusses a project designed to provide assistive technology (AT) tele-assessment and tele-adaptation across European Countries. The project was created to provide three important aspects to the lives of people with disabilities: (1) independent living, (2) equal access, and (3) universal accessibility. To do so, the service employs the Userfit methodology, which holds that the service must involve experts at a distant location that can prescribe and access AT, and must also include a secure Internet-based system that supports videoconferencing and information technology data exchange for tele-assessment and tele-adaptation. The project was conducted by the Advanced Rehabilitation Technologies for Elder and Mobility impaired persons applied through innovative Internet Services (ARTEMIS) consortium.
