Really GREAT Government, No Kidding!

By Anderson, Kathleen; CSUN Technology and Persons With Disabilities Conference - 2002,
Publication Date: 2002

Paper focuses on how the State of Connecticut is committed to serving people with disabilities by ensuring universal accessibility to its online resources. The state’s formation of an independent statewide collaborative forum is discussed. The forum is called the ConneCT Management Advisory Committee, and it manages the state’s website (http://www.state.ct.us). The organization holds accessibility demonstrations on existing state websites to determine overall accessibility levels. For example, tests are run to evaluate ease of mouse navigation and usability with screen reader software. Compliance is ultimately evaluated by an independent agency so as to not allow for self-certification. This paper was presented at the 2002 California State University at Northridge Technology and Persons With Disabilities Conference.
