Wheelchair Standards: It's All About Quality Assurance and Evidence-Based Practice

By Cooper, Rory A., PhD; Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine, Vol. 29, No. 2, pp. 93-94
Publication Date: 2006

Article provides an introduction to the issue, which features a case report on preventing burns caused by equipment in people with tetraplegia. As wheelchair technology becomes more sophisticated, safety standards need to evolve as well in order to yield efficient, safe designs. The author contends that the requirements announced in 2005 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services were a valuable step in the development of quality safety standards.
