MedicAlert to Arm Patients With USB Drives

By Hines, Matt; ZDNet.com,
Publication Date: January 2005

Article focuses on the Personal HealthKey from MedicAlert, which is a device that utilizes a USB flash drive from SanDisk and software from CapMed, which is a division of Bio-Imaging Technologies. The device works with any USB-compatible computer to display a client’s medical history to any healthcare worker, as it provides access to information such as chronic medical conditions or drug allergies. Unlike the traditional medical bracelets, the HealthKey will offer detailed information outside of alerts to just one or two major medical conditions. The device could prove to be particularly valuable to first response professionals such as paramedics and emergency room physicians.
