Marking the Road to MP3 Player Accessibility: A Review of the Milestone 311

By Kendrick, Deborah; Access World, Vol. 7, No. 5
Publication Date: September 2006

Article provides a review of the Milestone 311, which is a digital voice recorder or MP3 player designed by the Swiss National Association for the Blind in cooperation with Independent Living Aids. The author describes the device as falling between off-the-shelf MP3 players and handheld digital players that are designed for people with visual disabilities. The author was impressed with the device’s flexibility and accessibility, though was not impressed with the device’s high price considering that other accessible devices at nearly the same price offer the same features along with text-to-speech options and bookmarking capabilities. If the consumer is looking for an MP3 player that is easy to use, and a digital recorder that is reliable and accessible, then the price might not be too much of an issue. Recommendations for device improvement are included.
