Paper focuses on a system that uses ultrasonic sensors for monitoring older adults in their homes. The system consists of four ultrasonic sensors and a personal computer. The sensors are used to detect abnormal behaviors in the home via an algorithm that monitors daily routines. Routines for specific activities are stored in a database, as a professional caregiver can be alerted through the personal computer when routines are broken or performed in an abnormal manner. The system was developed by researchers at the Institute for Infocomm Research in Singapore.
