VISUAIDE - GPS Solution: Victor Escort

By Lagace, Yvan; CSUN Technology and Persons With Disabilities Conference - 2002,
Publication Date: 2002

Article focuses on the Victor Escort from VisuAide, which is a portable solution that will work with various platforms such as Braille notetakers, and personal digital assistants with global positioning system (GPS) input. The application was designed as a guide for people who have visual disabilities, as maps and guides can be purchased online and downloaded, or ordered and delivered on CD. The main features of the Victor Escort include: (1) voice information control, (2) user-defined location marks, (3) route planning and recording, (4) access to GPS status information, and (5) flexibility in information presentation and guidance to meet the needs of various levels of user. The author contends that the application will help to provide more confidence and autonomy for pedestrians with visual disabilities.
