Paper discusses the National Center on Accessible Information Technology in Education (AccessIT) at the University of Washington in Seattle. The purpose of AccessIT is to coordinate an effort to help educational and governmental institutions to make education-based IT accessible to all students and employees, including those with disabilities. Professionals at AccessIT work to develop policies and make decisions regarding planning for and procuring IT, and help to train general and special educators, computer lab staff, and library staff on the latest IT. AccessIT is funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the United States Department of Education.
