Expert-Based Assessment of the ARGO Web Browser for People With Disability

Paper presents an overview of the ARGO web browser in terms of its accessibility for people with upper limb motor disabilities. The ARGO browser was developed at the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, and supports interaction via mouse and keyboard, switches, and non-visual interaction. For people with upper limb motor disabilities, a scanning technique is used to move and click via the cursor. In short, when the cursor is red, or in “pass” state, pressing enter moves it to the next item on the web page. When the cursor is green, or in “interact” state, pressing enter selects an item or a group of items. The cursor color can be changed by clicking on a switch titled “change state.” Implications for design improvements are discussed.
