Total Hearing Aid Volume Increases by 8% in 2006

By Hearing Review,
Publication Date: January 2007

Article focuses on research generated by the Hearing Industries Association (HIA) showing that the net units of hearing aids dispensed in 2006 increased by 7.75 percent when compared with statistics from 2005. A total of 2.37 million devices were sold as reported to the HIA, as the increase was triggered by a second-half surge in dispensing activity by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The most notable trend was the increasing activity in behind-the-ear devices, which is due mainly to open-fit, receiver-in-the-ear, and directional technology.
