The article provides information about adaptive skiing. Included is a review of terminology commonly used in the sport, a description of the mono-ski and skier preparation necessary for safe skiing, and step-by-step instructions for setting up a mono-ski. Safety and accessibility standards as established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for such things as chairlifts and gondolas, parking areas, base area facilities, skier staging areas, snow access routes, on-mountain facilities, communication equipment, adaptive equipment, and more, are explained. A ski comparison matrix is provided, including information as supplied by adaptive ski equipment manufacturers concerning specifications for products. Results of a survey distributed to manufacturers regarding safety and compatibility issues are also provided. Diagrams illustrating suspension linkages are included, as well as descriptions of adaptive skiing facilities and programs by state.
