Putting Words to Windows: A Review of JAWS for Windows and Window-Eyes

Article reviewing and comparing product JAWS for Windows and Window-Eyes. Both are voice output screen reader programs for persons with blindness or low vision. The products are rated on a scale of zero to five, where a rating of zero means the product provides blind users with a level of functionality equivalent to a sighted person with no mouse and the monitor turned off, and a rating of five means the product provides blind users with a level of functionality equivalent to a sighted person with a mouse and the monitor turned on. JAWS and Window-Eyes are tested for setup, usability with Word 2000 and Wordperfect, and usability with Internet Explorer 5.0. Both tested favorably in all areas.
