Games: Engaging Environments for Developing Skills

Article on playing games, and how they can be therapeutic. Some game modifications are mentioned for people with disabilities - specifically, Powerlink 3 and Boardmaker. Powerlink 3 can be used to control the action in musical chairs for someone who isn't physically able to play. It is a control switch interface unit designed to allow the user to operate two electrical appliances simultaneously with a switch. Using Boardmaker is also suggested for use in games that involve a great deal of communication. It is a symbolic communicator computer program designed to access over 3,000 symbols contained in the Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) Books I, II, and III for use by people with speech disabilties.
