Article describing Speaker, which combines several methods of inputting words into a speech box, which will then speak the text at the push of a button. Speaker also has "speak now" buttons, which speak commonly used words instantly. It has a screen of words, which can be clicked on and added to the speech box, or to pop-up menus. A general dictionary is provided and a user-defined word list is also available for keeping specialized terms or favorite words handy for easy use. It was created by Kent Barrett, whose father was diagnosed with ALS and lost the use of his voice. Barrett wanted his father to be able to talk and use the telephone again, and he uses Speaker to do just that.
