Introducing the All-Terrain Wheelchair

Article describing the Individual Balancing Optimized Transporter (iBOT), which can roll up or down long flights of stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and hop steep curbs with little difficulty. Users sit an a padded seat atop four large rear wheels, two small front castor wheels, and a box full of high-tech gyroscopes and balancing equipment. Invented by Dean Kamen of DEKA Research & Development, iBOT comes with gyroscopes that are programmed to create balancing capabilities based on an individual's center of gravity, which makes travelling over difficult terrain safe.
